CALLED TO BE LIGHT

The following poem was inspired by the quote above, found in H.R Rookmaker's 'The Creative Gift'.

My brother, you were called to be light!
Called to illuminate the dark days for others,
called to reflect hope wherever you go.

My brother, you were called to be light.

My sister, you were called to be salt!
Called to heal and preserve,
To halt decay and death wherever you go,

My sister, you were called to be salt.

How is it then, that you spend most of your time pointing fingers?

How is it then, that you spend most of your time playing judge?

You were never intended for crusades and wars,
the battle was never against flesh and blood.
You were never called to shame your brother,

never called to demean your sister.

The divide you created was manmade,
the objective you’ve set is not real.
The pedestal you’ve put some on - and taken others off -

was never meant for comparison, never meant for humans at all.

Life-giver, hope-bringer, love-bestower,
those are the names predestined for you.
Let your kindness be known to all men,

that was your mandate.

Oh my brother, my sister, who has led you so astray?
Who’s lies have you believed?
What made you strive for power instead of mercy,

more interested in being right, than being humble in love?

Return to your calling, return to your roots!
Remember the ONE you follow and follow Him only.
In the world, not from the world,
not thinking of yourself more highly than you ought.
Shining brightly in humility,
reflecting His light -
Overcoming evil with good,

pointing to ONE greater.

My brother, my sister,
there is work to be done;
there is brokenness to be healed,
darkness to be overcome,
injustice to be broken,

and hope to be restored.

My brother, my sister, remember,
you were called to be salt,
My brother, my sister,
you were called to be light.
